Patient Advocacy
Healthcare can feel overwhelming, especially when you are managing multiple appointments, new diagnoses, referrals, medications, insurance requirements, or major decisions about your care. It is not always easy to know what questions to ask, who to contact, or what should happen next.
That is where I come in.
As your patient advocate, I help you better understand your healthcare, stay organized, and feel more confident participating in decisions about your care. My role is not to make medical decisions for you or tell you what treatment to choose. My role is to help you understand your options, prepare meaningful questions, communicate your concerns, and make sure your voice remains at the center of your care.
I help you understand what is happening
Medical information can be confusing. Appointments may move quickly, providers may use unfamiliar language, and you may leave with more questions than answers.
I can help you:
Organize the information you received from your healthcare team
Identify areas that may need further clarification
Prepare follow-up questions for your providers
Review instructions, referrals, and next steps with you
Keep track of important updates across your care
Create easy-to-follow summaries that help you understand what has been discussed
I do not interpret medical findings or provide medical advice. Instead, I help you recognize what you understand, what still feels unclear, and what may be important to discuss directly with your licensed healthcare provider.
I help you prepare for healthcare conversations
It can be difficult to remember every concern during an appointment. You may think of important questions after the visit is already over, or feel rushed when trying to explain what you have been experiencing.
Before an appointment, I can help you organize:
Your most important concerns
Changes in symptoms or daily functioning
Questions about medications or treatment plans
Updates from other providers
Barriers that may be affecting your care
Goals you want your provider to understand
Follow-up items that still need attention
This preparation can help you feel calmer, more focused, and ready to use your appointment time effectively.
I help make sure your concerns are clearly communicated
You deserve to feel heard and respected.
I can help you put your concerns into clear, organized language so your healthcare team understands what you are experiencing and what support you are requesting. This may include helping you prepare messages, written summaries, appointment notes, or questions for a provider.
When appropriate and with your permission, I may also assist with communication between you and members of your healthcare team. My goal is to support clear communication while helping you remain actively involved in your own care.
I help you keep track of the bigger picture
Healthcare often becomes fragmented when several providers, facilities, pharmacies, insurance companies, and support services are involved. Each office may only see one part of your situation.
I help you keep the larger picture organized by tracking:
Current priorities
Pending referrals
Upcoming appointments
Unanswered questions
Provider recommendations
Records that may need to be requested
Tasks that still need follow-up
Barriers delaying care or services
This can make it easier to see what has already been completed, what is still in progress, and what may need additional attention.
I help you feel more confident making informed decisions
The decisions are always yours.
My role is to help you gather information, understand what questions may be worth asking, and communicate what matters most to you. I can help you compare the information provided by your healthcare team, identify questions about risks or benefits, and prepare for conversations about possible next steps.
I will never pressure you toward a particular treatment or decision. Instead, I help you advocate for the information you need so you can make choices that reflect your goals, preferences, and values.
I help reduce the stress of managing healthcare alone
Many patients feel like they have become the full-time manager of their own healthcare. You may be trying to keep up with phone calls, paperwork, referrals, records, appointments, and instructions while also managing your health and everyday responsibilities.
You do not have to carry all of that by yourself.
I provide steady, personalized support to help you stay informed, prepared, and organized. Whether you need assistance with one specific concern or ongoing support across several areas of your care, I meet you where you are and help you take the next step forward.
Patient advocacy may be helpful when you are:
Feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to begin
Managing care with several providers
Preparing for an important appointment
Trying to understand your next steps
Experiencing delays in referrals or services
Having difficulty communicating your concerns
Keeping track of several healthcare priorities
Supporting a family member through a complex healthcare situation
Trying to feel more informed and involved in your care
What you can expect from me
You can expect support that is personal, organized, respectful, and centered around your needs.
I will listen carefully, help you identify your priorities, and work with you to create a realistic plan. I will also be honest about what falls within my role and when a question needs to be addressed by a physician, nurse practitioner, attorney, insurance representative, or another appropriate professional.
My goal is for you to feel less overwhelmed, more prepared, and more confident navigating your healthcare.
